Varghese with the WhiteHope

Varghese Joseph was born into a family in Allepey, Kerala, that ran on daily wages. His father worked as a labour man and his mother, a housewife.

Growing up in a financially tight spot, Varghese’s father decided that his son must study and take up a career in mechanical engineering to put the family out of misery, Young Varghese was not interested to pursue the course and thus ended up working as an apprentice to A/C servicemen in Chennai for two years while staying at his aunty’s house in the city.

Varghese’s father was not only a labour but also a good cook, who would often cook for occasions that happened around their town. It was during one such day that Varghese’s was drawn towards the aroma coming of his father’s clothes that fascinated him to work with food.

Thus, Varghese got his first job as a waiter at the “Nest international hotel” in Chennai in the year 1996. Starting out as a waiter in the city was a bit challenging, hence his friend Prathap suggested that he must work as a kitchen staff. He worked day and night, learning to handle both, customers and kitchen alike.

In 1998 Varghese joined “US Pizza” and worked in the Chennai, Bangalore and Gujarat outlets in the period where he rose to the position of kitchen supervisor and production manager. It is also mentionable that the unlimited pizza buffet we see from international menus was brought into our market by Varghese. The idea immediately made a breakthrough and became a huge hit across the chain of outlets all over the country.

Over the years, Varghese worked with all sorts of food product brands and major hotels in the south. He has worked with the Taj and Annapoorna group of hotels to name a few among many. He also worked with brands like Sankalp, US Pizzas, Uncle Sam’s Pizza etc. Now, Varghese has his hands full as he is working with many upcoming brands such as William’s Pizzeria, Munchies, Panipuri World, The Masala Darbar and Gyro foods.

He has looked over the menus, recipes, raw material and services for these brands across several outlets throughout the country.

Varghese says his ultimate goal is to give people international standard quality food at affordable prices to the masses. He is determined to make this dream a reality in the next couple of years.
